For this exhibition in Shanghai, I specifically chose the Atour Hotel People's Square Metro Station Shanghai next to the People's Square subway station. After staying for four consecutive days, I added it directly to my 'fixed list' for business trips in Shanghai - in the city center where land is precious, it is really rare to balance location, service, and experience so comfortably.
The hotel is right next to Huanghe Road, and as soon as I checked in, I realized that its location is a perfect "golden spot in the city center": a 3-minute walk to Xinzha Road Station on Line 1, a 5-minute walk to the transfer station for Lines 1, 2, and 8 at People's Square, a 1-stop direct to Shanghai Station, and a 9-stop direct to Shanghai South Station. Whether you just got off the high-speed train with your luggage or have to catch the early subway to Hongqiao Airport, you don't have to worry about traffic jams at all. Walking 200 meters downstairs is the Huanghe Road Food Street in Fanhua. After a meeting in the evening, you can stroll to the restaurant, where you can find our local dishes, fried dishes, and time-honored Dim sum shops within a few steps. You can even save time in finding a night snack bar by taxi.
The condition of the room completely exceeded expectations. The newly renovated facilities in 2024 did not have any sense of obsolescence, and the iconic deep sleep Pro bedding from Ato was soft and not collapsing. I stayed up for three consecutive days until early in the morning when I returned to the hotel, and after lying down for a while, I could relieve my exhaustion. The most thoughtful thing is the desk design in the room, with all the sockets arranged in a hidden way. Even when charging laptops, phones, and power banks at the same time, it won't look messy. When rushing to plan at night, the desktop space is completely sufficient, and the lighting brightness is just right, without shaking the eyes.
The most surprising thing is the service hidden in the details. When checking in at the front desk, they not only proactively handed me a hot towel, but also recommended nearby walking and commuting routes to me, fearing that I would be late the next morning. They also reminded me of the off peak time of the subway during the morning rush hour. The late night "Congee arrival" service of the hotel is too familiar with the stomach of business travelers. If you work overtime at night to return to the hotel more than 10 o'clock, you can also go to the lobby bar to serve a bowl of hot Congee, with a few kinds of pickles, and a warm bowl of stomach, which can make your stomach feel comfortable after days of running. The bamboo book bar in the public area is quiet and spacious. I finished writing my unfinished plans directly in the book bar, which is much more efficient than working in a room.
It's even more convenient to stroll around. It's only a 7-minute walk to Nanjing East Road Pedestrian Street and a leisurely stroll to the Bund in just over ten minutes. If you want to visit the Natural History Museum and People's Park, you can just lift your foot and walk there, saving even the cost of taking a taxi. I used to think that hotels in the core area of Shanghai were either outrageously expensive or had good locations but poor experiences. Atour Hotel People's Square Metro Station Shanghai gave me a completely different answer - it did not excessively pile up luxurious decorations, but took care of the commuting, sleep, and detailed services that business travelers care about the most.
